Meet Our Team

Meet the

Founder

Amethyst Hertsens

I am a new mom to a 7 month old saucy little Salsera! Having spent the last 22 years supporting families in a variety of different ways (Nanny, Birth and Postpartum Doula, Lactation Counselor, Newborn Care specialist, Infant Massage Instructor, Childbirth educator, Family Assistant) and having a background in dance, the idea of Salsa Mama Studios came to me when I was in my first trimester. While yoga has always been a passion of mine, I found I was really craving more movement, a sense of community, and FUN to help me navigate all the 1st trimester discomforts I was experiencing. Lo and behold, the first day creating the Salsa Mama curriculum, I found myself frequenting the bathroom (finally some constipation relief!) I knew I was on to something. I was SO excited that I created the curriculum for the first 8 class series in 2 days. One baby girl later, I had created 3 curriculums! Salsa Mama (pregnancy), Salsa Baby (postpartum with baby in carrier) and Salsa Family (partner wears baby and birthing person dances freely). I am so excited to be bringing Salsa Mama Studios to the pregnancy and parenting community with the hope that I can provide what I had been searching for my entire pregnancy.

Salsa Mama Studios welcomes you, your baby or bump, and your partner to connect with your local community of parents in a fresh and exciting way. Our classes are built to facilitate movement in your body and soul. Our programs are structured for education, community building, and dance!

Our Class Structure

Community

We know how hard it can be to make space for social and community involvement in a parent’s busy schedule. That’s why we begin every class with a few minutes of group engagement and community discussion.

Warm Up

The key to avoid that post-workout soreness and still enjoy your class is a good warm-up. We’ll begin our movement with simple yet important stretches to prepare your body for exercise. No 2-day soreness here!

Dance

The bulk of our class is meant to make you salsa, shimmy, and shake your baby blues away. Our choreography is meant to get you moving in a low-impact, yet energetic way that prioritizes the changes your body has gone through.

Reconnect

We round off our hour-long classes with a few minutes of education, stretching and meditation. This way, you can cool down while resetting your mind and body so you leave feeling energized and refreshed.
